Glendale Muscles Up Against Cuesta, 11-1

In a battle between two of the Western State Conference’s top baseball teams, Glendale College defeated Cuesta, 11-1, on Friday in an interdivisional game at Stengel Field.

Cuesta (26-6, 12-2 in WSC play), ranked fifth in the state, managed only five hits against Shawn Lange (9-1), who went the distance.

Darin Reisman had two hits and four runs batted in, including a two-run home run.

Sheldon Philip-Guide had a three-run home run and Karl Castro added a two-run blast for the Vaqueros (21-9, 10-4), ranked 25th in the state.

In other baseball games:

Cal Lutheran 5, Point Loma Nazarene 1--Senior left-hander Richard Bell (7-1) struck out 10, walked four and scattered five hits for the Kingsmen (20-5) in a nonconference game at Point Loma (12-22-1).

Trailing, 1-0, in the sixth inning, David Ballon hit a bases-loaded double to score David Cruz and Tom McGee and spark a four-run rally.

McGee finished with three hits.

Pepperdine 8, Gonzaga 0--Mark Lopez hit a home run and a double and drove in four runs, and Randy Wolf (6-2) pitched a five-hitter, striking out nine for the Waves (21-16) in a nonconference game at Gonzaga.

SOFTBALL

Antelope Valley 12, Citrus 0--Shannon Martini went three for four with a double, her third home and three RBIs for the Marauders (12-14-1, 5-0) in a Foothill Conference game at Citrus called after five innings because of the 10-run rule. Correna Berlinger (14-7) and Angie Davison combined for a no-hitter.
