A woman who was reportedly kidnapped by her boyfriend over the weekend was safe and en route home Tuesday, according to Ventura police investigators.

Isabell Cordera, 22, of Ventura had been grabbed by her boyfriend, 24-year-old Joseph Alexander Brunes, Sunday at about 12:30 a.m. and dragged out of the Metro Nite Club in Ventura, said Det. Gary McCaskill.

A friend of Cordera said Brunes told the friend, “She’s going with me” as he dragged her out the door, McCaskill said.

Police were not told of the incident until about noon Monday when Cordera failed to show up at work, he said.

But later that day Cordera called her parents to tell them she was all right and at the Nevada-California state line, McCaskill said.

Around 9 p.m. Monday she called them again and said she and her boyfriend were at Whiskey Pete’s hotel, he said. Ventura police investigators notified authorities in Nevada, who contacted Cordera, removed her from the room and kicked Brunes out of the hotel, McCaskill said.

Cordera was later picked up by her parents to be driven back to Ventura, he said. Police have not decided if Brunes, who also returned to Ventura, would be arrested for kidnapping or domestic violence, McCaskill said.
