Moore Suffers Rare Loss in 800

James Levine of Merced Golden Valley High might have pulled off the most shocking upset in Saturday night’s Arcadia Invitational track and field meet, but no one was more dominant than Kinshasa Davis of Long Beach Wilson.

Levine ran a personal best of 1 minute 49.21 seconds in the 800 meters to hand Pasadena Muir’s Obea Moore a rare loss.

Moore, the defending state champion in the 200 and 400, anchored Muir to a meet-record 40.28 clocking in the 400-meter relay but came up short in the 800.

He looked as if he was on his way to an easy victory in front of an estimated 7,000 after coming through the first 400 in 50.7, but the fast early pace and a sore hamstring slowed him.

Levine caught Moore midway down the backstretch and quickly pulled away as Moore faded to fourth in 1:52.99.

Davis, the defending state champion in the 400, anchored Long Beach Wilson to a fourth-place time of 46.05 in the 400-meter relay. She won the 400 by nearly three seconds with a time of 52.61, took the 200 by more than a second with a 23.53 clocking and capped the night with a scintillating 50.9 anchor leg in the 1,600 relay to help Wilson to a meet-record 3:40.33.
