GALAXY TONIGHT

Share

Opponent--Colorado Rapids.

Site--Rose Bowl.

Time--7:30.

Radio--KTNQ (1020).

Records--Galaxy 0-3, Rapids 1-2.

Record vs. Rapids (1996)--2-2.

Galaxy update--Coming off a 4-1 loss to the San Jose Clash, the Galaxy again will be missing two starters. Goalkeeper Jorge Campos remains with his Mexican club team, Atlante, and midfielder Martin Machon was called up by Guatemala for its Central American (UNCAF) championship game against Costa Rica tonight at Guatemala City. The match, at Mateo Flores Stadium, is Guatemala’s first there since 78 people died in a crush at the overcrowded stadium last October. Winger Cobi Jones is suspended from the U.S. national team’s game against Mexico on Sunday at Foxboro Stadium and is therefore available to the Galaxy tonight. The team has scored only three goals in three games and has given up a league-high seven.

Rapid update--Like the Galaxy, Colorado is coming off its worst loss of the season, a 5-2 drubbing by MLS champion D.C. United in freezing weather at Denver last Saturday. Raul Diaz Arce scored four goals in the game, a feat the Galaxy’s so-far-scoreless Eduardo Hurtado would like to match tonight. Rapid defenders Marcelo Balboa and Peter Vermes are in New England with the U.S. team. Former national team defender Steve Trittschuh will have the task of marking Hurtado. Returning to the Rapids from World Cup duty for Jamaica is forward Wolde Harris. Fellow forward Jean Harbor is listed as doubtful because of a right knee injury.
