Piranha update--There will be a lot of people making their Piranha debuts: Coach Mike Hohensee, quarterback Lee Williamson and 16 other players. Williamson, a 6-4 left-hander, spent three seasons on the Houston Oiler roster and is battling Utah State’s Ron Lopez for the starting job. Defensive back/kick returner Rodney Mazion, a first-team All-Arena League player, was put on the physically unable to perform list with a hamstring injury and will miss the preseason. Hohensee, who played quarterback at Minnesota and grew up in Rowland Heights, is known for his offensive mind. Hohensee coached the Albany Firebirds the last three years and each the year the Firebirds led the AFL in total offense and scoring.

Terror update--Only six players return from last year’s team, which had the second-worst record in the AFL. First-year Coach Dave Ewart led the St. Louis Stampede to a playoff berth last year. Wide receiver/defensive back Rodney Blackshear is the Terror’s top returning player. He led the team with 14 touchdowns last season. The Terror recently acquired fullback Andy Chilcote, who scored 13 touchdowns last year, from Iowa.
