The event covers eight holes on the course, testing golfers in the following skills: short iron, pitch over hazard, putting, long drive, greenside bunker, middle-iron tee shot, chip shot and trouble shot. Golfers have three shots per skill and earn points based on where the shot lands.

Entry forms are available at local golf courses and shops or by calling (800) 932-8337. The fee is $25 with a portion of the proceeds benefiting local junior golf programs. A limited number of walk-up tee times also are available each day, according to organizers.

Van Girard, the women’s basketball coach at Cal State Dominguez Hills, was interviewed for the vacant UC Irvine position Thursday, a source said.

Girard has a 136-108 record in nine seasons at Dominguez Hills. In 1995, the Toros finished 22-6, won their first California Collegiate Athletic Assn. and reached the NCAA Division II tournament. They lost to top-seeded UC Davis, 52-42, in the semifinals. Last season, Dominguez Hills finished 21-8 and again reached the NCAA tournament.
