What: “And Then Jack Said to Arnie . . . “ edited by Don Wade

Publisher: Contemporary Books Inc. Price: $10.95

If you’re interested in reading about grown men gripping sticks and trying to hit little white balls into little holes while strolling in fields, getting lost in the woods, getting wet in ponds and getting hit by lightning, this one will suit you.

“And Then Jack Said to Arnie” tells the enduring golf stories you might have heard while eavesdropping on some of the game’s great players as they reminisce about great triumphs, strange incidents and lost golfing loves.

The book describes the trials of golf suffered and enjoyed by legends such as Sam Snead, Ben Hogan, Gene Sarazan, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and famous people from other fields, even some mere mortals.

These stories should be enjoyed one or two at a time. They’ll elicit a few laughs, but read in bunches might be too much of a good thing. Keep the book by your bedside, pick it up from time to time and enjoy.
