Share

Jewish Family Services of Ventura County is offering free peer counseling for senior citizens who are dealing with grief, depression or other problems experienced by the elderly.

The nonsectarian program, staffed by professionally trained volunteers, offers free in-home counseling to county residents 55 years and older.

“We have a newly trained group of graduates, eager to reach out and help,” said Janette Goldberg, a volunteer counselor with the program.

Goldberg and others received weeks of training from licensed therapists to become peer counselors. The program is open to senior citizens of any faith or denomination.
