Highs in Upper 90s Expected by Midweek

The unofficial start of summer that was marked by Memorial Day will be followed by mostly hot and dry days in the San Fernando Valley this week, meteorologists said Monday.

“It’s the beginning of the summer, at least tourist-wise, and the weather is starting to catch up with it,” said Bruce Rockwell, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Oxnard.

Weather service officials said that near-record high temperatures are expected in parts of Southern California, including the Valley, by midweek.

The hottest day in the Valley is expected Wednesday, with a predicted high of 96 to 97 degrees. Temperatures could reach 100 in other parts of the region, edging out or shattering some record highs.

As is normal for this time of year, low clouds expected in the mornings are likely to burn off to make way for clear skies and temperatures in the low- to mid-90s later in the day.

Temperatures may begin to drop slightly on Friday, possibly to the upper 80s.

Today, temperatures in the Valley are expected to reach the low 90s.
