A Long Beach couple and their 4-year-old daughter were killed late Wednesday after swerving to avoid a vehicle that cut them off on the northbound Long Beach Freeway, authorities said Thursday.

Witnesses described a dark-colored compact making an unsafe lane change about 11:40 p.m. in front of the victims’ 1985 Pontiac Grand Am, which swerved to avoid a collision, California Highway Patrol spokesman Armando Perdomo said. The accident occurred just south of the Willow Street off-ramp.

A 24-year-old woman and her boyfriend, 31, were declared dead at the scene. The child was dead on arrival at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. Their names were withheld pending family notification.

A fund has been set up for the couple’s only other child, a 5-year-old boy, Perdomo said.
