Jeff Scott Buckley, 30, rock singer best known for his 1994 hit “Last Goodbye.” Buckley was the son of the late folk-rock singer Tim Buckley, but had a much different style than his father. The younger Buckley’s music ranged from rock to folk to funk. “Last Goodbye,” which reached No. 19 on Billboard’s modern rock chart, was from an album titled “Grace.” Buckley wrote his own songs but also sang others made popular by Van Morrison and Edith Piaf. After attending high school in New York, Buckley moved to Los Angeles to study music. He played jazz and funk before joining the reggae band Shinehead. He later returned to New York, where he honed his performances in the East Village and formed the short-lived band Gods & Monsters. As a solo act, he recorded “Live at Sin-e” in 1993 and “Grace” the next year. Found Wednesday in Memphis, Tenn., after apparently drowning while swimming in the Mississippi River.
