4.5 Quake Hits Near San Clemente Island
A magnitude 4.5 earthquake and its 4.1 aftershock, both centered beneath the sea about 16 miles northeast of San Clemente Island, were felt in widespread areas of Southern California late Thursday, but no damage or injuries were reported, authorities said.
The temblors struck at 9:35 p.m. and 10:38 p.m., said Jim Mori, a spokesman for the seismological laboratory at Caltech in Pasadena.
