Jose Canseco broke a fifth-inning tie with a two-run single that led the Athletics to a 7-4 victory Friday night over the error-riddled Rangers, who have lost nine of 10 games.

Matt Stairs’ two-run double earlier in the fifth had tied the score. The A’s, who had scored two in the second on an RBI single by George Williams and a throwing error by second baseman Mark McLemore, added a run in the sixth on an error by left fielder Rusty Greer.

Stairs had a pair of doubles for the A’s, who have won three of four after losing five in a row, and Williams had three singles.

Juan Gonzalez added three singles, one of which drove in a run in the fifth. Texas added another run in the fifth on a wild pitch by Oquist.
