No Relief From the Heat Expected

The San Fernando Valley will continue to bake this week as a ridge of high pressure continues to hover above the area, forcing temperatures into triple digits, forecasters said.

Temperatures ranging from the mid-90s to the lower 100s are expected to continue through Wednesday, said John Sherwin, a meteorologist with WeatherData, which provides forecasting information for The Times.

Early in the week, the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains and the Antelope Valley could experience isolated thunderstorms, Sherwin said.

On Thursday and Friday, temperatures are expected to drop down into the upper 80s to the mid-90s, Sherwin predicted.

“It’s been cooler than normal so far this summer and now it’s time to pay the price,” Sherwin said. “There is no marine layer to influence temperatures at all. That’s why it’s so hot.”

Temperatures are expected to be 98 to 100 in Burbank and 100 to 104 in both Van Nuys and Woodland Hills today.
