Smith Denies Report About Six-Year Deal
Buffalo defensive end Bruce Smith discounted a newspaper report saying a new six-year contract could be completed this week with the Bills.
“I don’t know what’s being thrown around,” Smith said. “They’ve been talking, but there’s nothing to report.”

The New York Jets released running back Reggie Cobb and punter Brian Hansen after the team claimed fullback Jerald Sowell from Green Bay and rookie punter Todd Kurz from Minnesota.
The Jets also added tight end John Burke and safety Corwin Brown, who were cut by New England. Jet Coach Bill Parcells coached them last year with the Patriots.
To make room for Burke, Parcells sent Tyrone Davis to the Packers for past considerations. The Jets also claimed linebacker Matt Finkes from Carolina and cut kicker Joe Nedney.
