Authorities found wreckage from an old plane crash Thursday, apparently exposed during a recent brush fire near Wrightwood.

“It’s been there for quite some time,” said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Mark Bailey. “Deputies also found what appeared to be bone fragments, [but] there were no visible identifying numbers on the plane.”

Federal Aviation Administration officials said they were aware of the discovery near the Angeles Crest Highway, but did not immediately send investigators to the scene.

The wildfire, started by campers burning toilet paper, destroyed more than 18,000 acres in the Angeles National Forest and was extinguished last weekend after burning for 11 days.
