* Long Beach State volleyball: The 49ers, ranked first in the country and led by former Newport Harbor standout Misty May, will host the Pacific Regionals Friday and Saturday at the Pyramid. They beat Loyola Marymount Saturday in three games. Long Beach (31-1) will face Washington at 8 p.m. Friday. USC, led by former Dana Hills standout Jennifer Kessey, plays Nebraska at 5:30. The winners will play for the regional title at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
* Pepperdine water polo: Former Dana Hills player Alan Herrmann had a key goal as Pepperdine defeated USC, 8-7, in overtime on Sunday to win the NCAA water polo title. Herrmann shared most valuable player honors for the championships with Pepperdine goalie Merrill Moses and two-meter man Jeremy Pope, who attended Golden West College.
