The man suspected of kidnapping and shooting a 64-year-old Pasadena apartment building manager was arrested Wednesday, police said.

Farrin Bryant, 19, of Fontana abducted Donna Haxton from her apartment in the 1300 block of East Washington Boulevard about 9 p.m. Tuesday, said Pasadena police spokeswoman Janet Pope.

Haxton, who suffered a scalp wound, is in good condition at Pasadena’s Huntington Memorial Hospital, Pope said.

She had left her apartment with the door unlocked, perhaps to take out trash or do other errands in the complex, Pope said.

When Haxton returned, she was surprised by Bryant, Pope said. He tied her up, put her in the back seat of her car and drove off, the spokeswoman said.

“She was taken to Charles Elliot Middle School in Altadena,” Pope said. “He shot her and left.”

Although wounded, Haxton made her way to a sidewalk near Lake Avenue, where she caught the attention of a passerby who notified authorities, Pope said.

Haxton provided detectives with information that led to Bryant’s arrest. Her car was later found in Fontana, Pope said.

Bryant’s girlfriend lives in the building Haxton manages and was facing eviction, Pope said. That possible eviction could have been Bryant’s motive for abducting and shooting Haxton, she said.
