Searchers combed the waters off southern Orange County in vain Thursday for a woman missing since she went kayaking in Dana Point Harbor on Wednesday.
Two U.S. Coast Guard helicopters continued searching up to 24 miles offshore Thursday night for the 37-year-old woman, whose name has not been released, said Petty Officer Jim Roche.
The Coast Guard earlier launched an 82-foot cutter out of Newport Beach, while the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Harbor Patrol searched the Dana Point Harbor area all day.
The woman, last seen Wednesday, reportedly planned to go kayaking in the harbor later that day, said Lt. Charles Walters, Sheriff’s Department patrol watch commander.
