Fund-Raiser Planned for Ailing Firefighter

Dennis Marsh of Laguna Hills had just gotten out of bed on the morning of Dec. 1 when the 41-year-old firefighter suffered a heart attack so severe he had to be revived six times.
An eight-year veteran of the Laguna Beach Fire Department, he was released from the hospital Tuesday and readmitted several hours later after complaining of chest pains.
Double-bypass surgery performed at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in Laguna Hills on Thursday “went very well,” said Patrick Brennan, a fellow firefighter.
But it is unclear how long Marsh’s recovery will take and whether he can return to the often stressful world of firefighting, Brennan said.
To help defray medical costs and some living expenses for Marsh, his wife, June, and the couple’s four children, the Fire Department is sponsoring a silent auction from 4 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at Hennessey’s Tavern, 213 Ocean Ave., Laguna Beach.
