Long Beach Dominates Nebraska
No. 1 Long Beach State wrapped up the NCAA women’s volleyball Pacific Regional on Saturday night by easily defeating No. 9 Nebraska, 15-9, 15-9, 15-3, before 3,539 at the Pyramid in Long Beach.
Jenn Snyder had 12 kills for the 49ers (33-1), and setter Misty May had 38 assists and 10 kills. Anja Grabovac also had 10 kills.
Snyder, May and Nique Crump were the 49ers named to the all-regional team. May was named most valuable player.
Lisa Reitsma had 17 kills for the Cornhuskers, who finish 27-7. Fiona Nepo had 38 assists.
It was the first time since 1987 that Nebraska was swept in three games in a regional playoff game.
Nebraska, trying to make its fourth consecutive Final Four, advanced to the regional final by eliminating No. 7 USC in five sets Friday night. Long Beach advanced with a three-set victory over Washington.
In the Mountain Regional final, host Stanford (33-2) defeated UC Santa Barbara, 15-12, 15-12, 15-3, and in the East Regional final, host Penn State (33-1) defeated BYU, 15-0, 15-12, 15-10.
The Central Regional final between Florida (33-3) and Wisconsin (30-2) will be played today at Madison, Wis.
