A Moorpark man was arrested on suspicion of armed robbery Sunday when he turned himself in to the Fillmore Police Department on unrelated misdemeanor charges.

Police suspect Marshall Perez, 20, robbed a Moorpark gas station at knifepoint early Sunday.

After allegedly identifying Perez from the gas station’s surveillance videos, Moorpark sheriff’s deputies notified other police departments. Within hours, Perez showed up at the Fillmore department to confess to violating his probation, police said. He is being held in the East County Jail in Thousand Oaks.

“It was just by chance that we found him this way,” said Sheriff’s Det. Ernie Montagna.

A man entered the gas station about 2 a.m., held out a knife and demanded money from the attendant, police said. After ordering the attendant to lay on the floor, the robber fled on foot with an unknown amount of cash. No one was hurt.

Perez is expected to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon.
