A 17-year-old girl who was killed when the man driving her car Monday night crashed into a pole was identified Tuesday as Tiffany Delano of Huntington Beach.

Police said she was the front-seat passenger in her 1997 Ford Escort being driven by 19-year-old Robert T. Holliman. He and a 17-year-old boy had just broken into the garage of a home nearby and taken a chain saw, Police Lt. Bruce Kelly said. Driving away, Holliman lost control trying to pass a car on the right on Edinger Avenue and hit a pole, the officer said.

Officers said Delano was not involved in the burglary. They did not say how she came to be in the car.

Holliman was taken to the Western Medical Center-Santa Ana jail ward, and the other youth was treated and released into the custody of his parents. Both are from Huntington Beach.

Holliman was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and manslaughter. He and the boy were both arrested on suspicion of burglary and receiving stolen property, Kelly said.
