SAUGUS — Sheriff’s deputies Sunday were investigating an apparent racial brawl at the county jail in which seven inmates suffered minor injuries.
The fight, which involved as many as 40 African American and Latino inmates, erupted shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday at the North County Correctional Facility, the Sheriff’s Department said.
The fight lasted about five minutes before deputies were able to restore order using verbal commands, according to a statement released by the Sheriff’s Department.
One inmate suffered a laceration over his right eye and was taken to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center. Six others were treated for minor injuries in the jail’s clinic.
Investigators were trying to determine what provoked the brawl Sunday night.
