Louisville Exceeds Expectations With 9-0 Start
This was supposed to be a rebuilding year for the Louisville High girls’ basketball program.
The Royals lost four starters to graduation and were picked as low as fourth in a preseason poll of Mission League coaches.
On Tuesday, Louisville improved to 9-0, its best start in school history, with a 62-52 nonleague victory over St. Bonaventure at Louisville.
Freshman guard Megan Wiser scored a game-high 22 points and senior forward Teresa Delgado added 17 points for Louisville.
J.W. North 60, Harvard-Westlake 48--The Wolverines (9-2) lost in the Green Division championship game of Santa Barbara’s Tournament of Champions.
Crescenta Valley 50, San Jose Archbishop Mitty 47--Michelle Greco scored 24 points in the fifth-place game in the Gold Division of the Tournament of Champions.
Sinnamonn Garrett added 10 points and 11 rebounds for Crescenta Valley (6-1).
Morningside 53, Nordhoff 46--Nell Becker had 18 points, seven assists and four steals for the Rangers (7-3), but missed most of the second quarter because of foul trouble in the seventh-place game in the Green Division of the Tournament of Champions.
St. Lucy’s 73, Canyon 35--Keisha Jordan had 12 points and Cheryl Grucelski added 11 for the Cowboys (6-7) in a pool-play loss in the Simi Valley tournament.
Canyon was without leading scorer Janette Garcia, who has the flu.
Simi Valley 57, Burbank 43--Jamie Sturdivant and Ilene Squires each scored 11 points for the Pioneers (7-3) in a pool-play game of their own tournament.
Newbury Park 64, Littlerock 46--Nadine Levsey scored 14 points and Oli Keohohou had 10 points and six rebounds and the Panthers (3-5) won in pool play in the Simi Valley tournament.
