Bell Gardens Police Officer Kills Man Wielding Knife
A Bell Gardens police officer investigating a report of an attempted suicide Thursday morning shot and killed an 18-year-old man who attacked him with a knife, the Sheriff’s Department said.
The officer was called to a mobile home park in the 8400 block of Garfield Avenue about 1:20 a.m., Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Joan Raber said. When the officer entered the mobile home, he was attacked by Rigorberto Gonzalez, Raber said. The officer shot Gonzalez, who died at a local hospital.
Sheriff’s detectives and Bell Gardens police were investigating the killing, as is standard when an officer shoots a suspect.
