Future Bulldog: Karl Holley of Westlake High, the Ventura County Coaches’ Assn. defensive lineman of the year, committed to Fresno State.

Holley, a 6-foot-3, 240-pound defensive tackle, was scheduled to take recruiting trips to Colorado State, San Jose State and Idaho, but decided that Fresno was the place for him after visiting there earlier this month.

GOLF

Sibling rivalry: Jonathan Ohye, 17, of Calabasas shot an even-par 71 to win the overall boys’ division championship in the Southern California PGA Junior Golf Association Tournament of Junior Champions Monday at Newport Beach Country Club.

Ohye beat his younger brother, Justin, 15, by one stroke. There were 128 players, all of whom have been winners of tournaments in the past year. Justin won the boys’ 14-15 division.

Jonathan, a senior at Calabasas High, recorded birdies on the final two holes to win the tournament.

Julie Park of Granada Hills placed third in the girls’ 15-17 division with a 79. Anthony Kim of Studio City shot a 75 to finish second in boys’ 12-13.

BASEBALL

Honored: San Fernando Valley physician Keith Richman, chairman of the Cal State Northridge Task Force on Intercollegiate Athletics, will receive the American Baseball Coaches Assn. Collegiate Alumnus Award at a national luncheon Sunday in San Diego.

Richman, 44, who was a pitcher at Birmingham High and UC Davis, is being honored for his contributions to the community. He is the chief executive officer of Medco Corp., and an assistant clinical professor of medicine at UCLA.

BOXING

Main event: Former bantamweight champion Wayne McCullough and heavyweight Peter McNeely will headline a boxing card staged by America Presents on Jan. 10 at Sportsmen’s Lodge in Studio City.

McCullough, 20-1 with 14 knockouts, is ranked No. 1 as a super-bantamweight by the World Boxing Council. McCullough will fight an opponent to be determined in a 10-round main event.

McNeely, 42-3 with 34 knockouts, will face Larry Menefee in a 10-round bout. McNeely is best known as the first opponent to face Mike Tyson after Tyson’s release from prison in 1995.

Whitaker set to rumble: Heavyweight Lance Whitaker of Granada Hills, undefeated in 12 professional fights, will fight Will Hinton on Jan. 16 in Atlantic City. Whitaker, who has knocked out all his opponents, originally was scheduled to fight Louis Monaco, who pulled out of the bout.

Hinton is 16-12-1 with eight knockouts.
