Sheriff’s homicide detectives are seeking the public’s help in finding the killer of a 38-year-old Los Angles man who was slain in his van Sunday afternoon in an unincorporated section of Los Angeles County just north of Watts.
Juan Avilar, 38, of Los Angeles was sitting in a van parked in front of a friend’s house in the 1600 block of East 87th Place when a man walked up and the two began to argue about a woman, Sheriff’s Deputy Angie Prewett said.
When Avilar started to get out of the van, the other man drew a gun and shot him in the chest, Prewett said. Avilar was dead on arrival at Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center, she said.
The suspect was described as a 5-foot, 10-inch black man 20 to 25 years old and weighing 150 pounds with a shaved head, a thin mustache and slight growth on his chin. Anyone with more information about the case can call homicide detectives at (213) 890-5500.
