Council Retains Disclosure Rule on Rose Bowl Tickets

The Pasadena City Council has rejected a proposal by Councilwoman Ann-Marie Villicana to eliminate a policy requiring council members to publicly disclose buyers of Rose Bowl game tickets.

Villicana on Monday challenged the 1987 policy, which requires that each council member list who bought their allotment of 100 tickets, saying the policy is burdensome and reflects a lack of public trust.

But some of her colleagues opposed the change. “There has to be some accountability,” Councilman Paul Little said.

Former Mayor Rick Cole warned that changing the policy would raise suspicions of those who believe mistakenly that politicians are benefiting from the sales.

Each council member is allowed to sell tickets at face value.
