A Simi Valley man was in Ventura County Jail on Tuesday awaiting arraignment on charges that he robbed a Malibu woman at a grocery store pay phone the evening before.

Steve Mohr, 34, was arrested about 9:30 p.m. Monday by five officers from the Simi Valley Police Department’s Special Problems Section a short distance from the robbery scene, a police spokesman said.

Mohr allegedly robbed 26-year-old Toni Tallaridowhile she was using a pay phone in the Vons parking lot in the 600 block of Los Angeles Avenue, the spokesman said.

Mohr allegedly demanded her purse while indicating that he had a gun. When Tallarido complied, her assailant fled in a car.

The car was spotted by police heading west on Los Angeles Avenue but did not stop. Mohr allegedly refused to pull over and turned and drove onto Tierra Rejada Road.

Officers said they saw Mohr then start to throw--what they later determined to be the victim’s property--out of the car window. He was eventually stopped at Mandan Place and Tierra Rejada Road, where police took him into custody.
