City Will Hold 7 Pet Vaccination Clinics

Share

Pet owners can have their dogs and cats vaccinated against rabies and other diseases at a series of clinics offered over the next few months.

The city Department of Animal Services will sponsor seven rabies vaccination clinics starting today and continuing through September.

Clinics also will offer the DHLPP or six-in-one vaccination, which inoculates dogs against six diseases, including hepatitis, parainfluenza and parvo. Pet owners may obtain the four-in-one vaccination for cats, which covers four feline diseases. Some clinics will provide dog licenses.

“It’s important to vaccinate your pet just as you would vaccinate your children,” said Peter Persic, spokesman for animal services. “Part of being a responsible pet owner is making sure your pet stays healthy.”

State law requires all dogs more than 4 months old be vaccinated against rabies. Dogs should be vaccinated once every three years, Persic said.

L.A. animal services must have proof of a rabies vaccination before a dog license is issued. Rabies vaccinations cost $4. Other vaccines cost between $5 and $11 each.
