Turkey and Armenia

I thoroughly enjoyed your article, “Hooked on Istanbul Seafood” (June 22). I have traveled to Turkey three times.

Being that my grandfather was born in Istanbul and my husband’s grandmother spent some time there as a young girl (both of Armenian descent), our discovery of the mysteries and surprises of this fascinating city had special meaning for us both.

I was happy to see your recommendation of Kor Agop, an Armenian-owned establishment that we had the pleasure of visiting one Sunday after attending church at the Armenian Patriarchate. Upon reading this recommendation, I yelled out, “Hey, we’ve been there!” We had a wonderful seafood experience at Kor Agop.

Some day, I would love to see the Travel section do an article on Armenia and its dozens of beautiful ancient churches, often referred to as the world’s greatest open-air museum. Perhaps the occasion of the 1700th anniversary of Christianity in Armenia, in the year 2001, would be an opportunity.
