Share

Sheriff’s deputies are looking for a man who assaulted a teenage girl near an Oak Park hiking trail July 6.

The 15-year-old was walking alone on a trail near Oak Canyon Community Park about 2 p.m., said Det. Robert Sparks of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department. A man asked if he could join her and, when she refused, grabbed her from behind, threw her to the ground and tried to undress her, Sparks said.

The girl fought off the attack and escaped. Although the trail is within view of several houses, there were no known witnesses to the attack, Sparks said.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers. Residents of Thousand Oaks and Moorpark may call 494-8255. Camarillo, Oxnard and Port Hueneme residents may call 987-8255.
