After losing four of six games following the All-Star break, the Atlanta Braves finally played like the defending National League champions.

Chipper Jones singled home the go-ahead run in the eighth inning and Tom Glavine won for the fourth time in five decisions, as the Braves extended the Colorado Rockies’ losing streak to five games with a 2-1 win.

“Good starting pitching, a big late hit and give it to [Mark] Wohlers to bring it home,” Jones said. “That’s how the Braves have won the past two or three years, and it’s nice to get back that form.”

Glavine (10-5) gave up five hits in eight innings, struck out five and walked three as Atlanta won for only the third time in seven games since the All-Star break. Wohlers finished with a perfect ninth for his 23rd save in 25 chances.

“I threw a lot more curveballs,” Glavine said. “It was good when I was warming up. I got to show them something besides the changeup. I knew I had good stuff. I didn’t have particularly good location.”

With the score 1-1, Michael Tucker doubled off Jerry Dipoto (3-2) in the eighth and scored on Jones’ single up the middle.

Larry Walker had one hit in four at-bats, dropping his major league-leading average to .404 for the slumping Rockies, who have lost 12 of 13, dropping to 44-51.

“It’s tough being in the streak we’re in and having to face these guys,” Thompson said. “But we’ve hit these guys before, and who knows--maybe we can hit them again.”

Colorado went ahead in the fourth when Quinton McCracken walked, took second on Walker’s groundout and scored on Andres Galarraga’s single to center.

Atlanta tied the score in the bottom half on Fred McGriff’s double, Ryan Klesko’s infield groundout and Andruw Jones’ run-scoring single

Colorado missed a scoring opportunity in the second when Dante Bichette doubled with one out and attempted to score on Kirt Manwaring’s two-out single to center. Jones’ throw was up the first-base line but catcher Eddie Perez caught the ball and dived back to the plate to make the tag.
