AROUND THE LEAGUES

Former Crespi High standout Casey Snow hasn’t had much to write home about this year. Not with his .185 batting average and 24 strikeouts in 92 at-bats. But Snow, who was Boston Red Sox pitcher Jeff Suppan’s battery mate his senior year, is not crying about his plight as the San Bernardino Stampede’s No. 2 catcher behind 22-year-old Angel Pena.

“Nobody wants to sit on the bench, but I’m trying to make the most of it,” said Snow, 22, a 15th-round selection out of Long Beach State who batted .269 last year at Great Falls. “I try to put in extra time on my swing and take it into the game with me. I’m not going to make excuses. [Not playing] does have an effect. But .185 is not doing the job.”

San Bernardino Manager Del Crandall said Snow has done the job in the games that he has started.

“I like him a lot,” Crandall said. “You never have to worry about effort when he’s out there.”
