Giants Acquire Rapp From Marlins
The Florida Marlins traded starting pitcher Pat Rapp to the San Francisco Giants on Friday in exchange for minor league pitchers Brandon Leese and Bobby Rector.
In addition, the Marlins recalled right-handed pitcher Livan Hernandez from triple-A Charlotte.
Hernandez, who is 2-0 with a 4.11 earned-run average in three starts for the Marlins, will move into Rapp’s spot in the rotation and start today’s game against the San Diego Padres. Hernandez was 5-3 with a 3.98 ERA at Charlotte.
Rapp, a right-hander, was 4-6 with a 4.47 ERA in 19 starts for the Marlins.

The Cincinnati Reds activated left-hander Pete Schourek, a runner-up in the 1995 Cy Young Award voting, from the 15-day disabled list. Schourek will make his first start in more than a month today against the New York Mets.
To make room on the roster for Schourek, the Reds put catcher Brook Fordyce on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained left hip.
Schourek, who has had difficulty remaining sound throughout his career, was put on the disabled list in mid-June with tendinitis in his left arm. He is 5-5 with a 5.14 ERA in 12 starts.
