Giants’ Lease Gets Approval
The San Francisco Giants have won approval of a long-term lease for their new waterfront ballpark from the Port Commission.
The 25-year lease agreement, which was expected to be approved by the Board of Supervisors, was one of the last hurdles the team faced in their quest to break ground for the ballpark.
Before approval, the team had to come to terms with the union officials to hire workers from 3Com Park for the new ballpark, as well as other provisions. The Giants also had to meet some demands made by a neighborhood committee.

The Atlanta Braves activated catcher Javy Lopez from the disabled list and sent infielder Mike Mordecai to triple-A Richmond.
Lopez sustained a hairline fracture of his left thumb in the All-Star game and went on the 15-day disabled list. He went one for four in a 5-4 loss to Chicago in the second game of a doubleheader.
