Man Punches Window, Bleeds to Death in Bed

After punching a window in frustration early Sunday morning, a Canoga Park man went to bed and quietly bled to death from cuts he received, a police department spokesman said.

While drinking with friends and family just after midnight, Cesar Francisco Matul became upset about a recent breakup with his girlfriend, said Sgt. Scott Mallory, of the West Valley Division of the Los Angeles Police Department. He punched a nearby window and cut his arm in several places, Mallory said.

“His companions tried to bandage him up and then they put him to bed,” he said. “I guess they didn’t think the cuts were very serious.”

At 6:30 a.m, a family member went to check on Matul, found him in a pool of blood and called for an ambulance. When paramedics arrived, they found Matul lying in a blood-soaked bed, Mallory said.

Matul was pronounced dead by paramedics from Los Angeles City Fire Department on Sunday shortly after arriving at his home on Alabama Avenue.
