Three Long Beach men in their 20s were killed within about eight hours in a spate of unrelated homicides Saturday night and early Sunday, Long Beach police said.

“It was a rough night,” Cpl. Jim Williams said.

The first slaying occurred Saturday about 9:30 p.m., the time Long Beach police arrived at an apartment in the 1600 block of Gundry Avenue and found a 21-year-old man stabbed to death. Police arrested a 19-year-old woman on suspicion of murder, according to a department statement that gave no further details. The man’s name was not released pending notification of his family.

At 2:09 a.m. Sunday, a group of men followed Eduardo Aguilera, 21, as he walked in the 1600 block of West Summit Street and shot him to death, Det. Estella Martinez said. The motive is unknown.

Then, at 5:46 a.m., gunshots rattled the 2300 block of Locust Avenue. Police found Alberto Vidrio Jimenez, 18, dead in the street, Sgt. Greg Fox said. There were no suspects.

Williams said the city had no homicides in the first two months of 1997. “We had a good start,” he said, “but now I guess we’re making up ground.”
