The Galaxy, winner of five Major League Soccer games in a row, takes on international competition tonight when it plays Mexican champion Santos Laguna at the Rose Bowl at 7:30.

As runner-up to Washington D.C. United in the MLS championship last year, the Galaxy qualified for the CONCACAF Cup of Champions, an annual event that pits the best club teams from throughout North and Central America and the Caribbean.

Santos Laguna, founded in 1983, won the winter half of the Mexican League. Tonight’s winner will face either Luis Angel Firpo of El Salvador, Xelaju of Guatemala or Alejuela or Cartagines, both of Costa Rica, in the Aug. 13 quarterfinals.
