Treanor Traded to the Marlins
The Kansas City Royals traded minor league catcher Matt Treanor, who graduated from Mater Dei High in 1994, to the Florida Marlins Tuesday for reliever Matt Whisenant.
Treanor, 21, was hitting .198 with five home runs and 25 runs batted in for Class A Wilmington of the Carolina League. He was a second-team Times all-county selection as a senior, when he hit .364 with three home runs and 22 RBIs for the Monarchs.
Whisenant, 26, who began the season on the disabled list with a pulled rib muscle, has a 16.88 earned-run average in four relief appearances this season. A left-hander, he will join the Royals for today’s game against Minnesota.
