Tustin’s Foster Shakes Off Ocean View

SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Ocean View’s sideline got excited late in the first quarter after its defense finally tackled Tustin’s DeShaun Foster. Once that was done, the Seahawks went back to chasing him.

Ocean View was no match for Foster, the county’s scoring and rushing leader. He gained for 287 yards in 18 carries and scored three touchdowns to lead the Tillers to a 56-0 Golden West League victory Friday at Tustin High.

Foster scored the first time he touched the ball, on a 65-yard run, shedding defenders as he powered into the secondary.

Ocean View put together its best drive on its next possession, but came away with no points. Quarterback Scott McMahan kept the drive alive by twice finding running back Jeremiah Armendariz for long gains on third-and-10 plays. Armendariz’s second catch gave the Seahawks a first down on the Tustin two-yard line.

However, Matt Trice was dropped for a three-yard loss. McMahan was then sacked on the next two plays, pushing Ocean View back to the 20. McMahan’s 37-yard field goal attempt was wide.

Foster broke loose for an 80-yard touchdown run on his next carry, but it was called back after an illegal use of the hands penalty. Ocean View contained Foster at that point, forcing Tustin to use its passing game. Todd Scott threw a 65-yard touchdown pass to Julius Williams with 38 seconds left in the first quarter.

Foster and Williams both had 30-yard touchdown runs in the second quarter, giving the Tillers a 28-0 halftime lead.

Foster played despite a sprained left ankle, which he injured against Santa Ana two weeks ago.

“I thought he ran very tough tonight and I thought his ankle looked real solid.” Tustin Coach Myron Miller said. “I pulled him out and he wasn’t twinging at all.”

Foster is now 44 yards shy of the 2,000 for the season and he increased his touchdown total to 36.
