Bullfrogs Receive Playoff Bonuses
The Bullfrogs have received their overdue playoff bonuses from Roller Hockey International, but the war between embattled league CEO Larry King and the majority of remaining team owners is heating up.
The Bullfrogs were each due about $3,800 for winning the Murphy Cup on Aug. 31, and they received that money Monday, Bullfrog owner Maury Silver said.
Nonetheless, Silver and owners of the New Jersey Rockin’ Rollers, St. Louis Vipers, San Jose Rhinos and Buffalo Wings have hired an attorney and are pressing King for a full accounting of league finances, which Silver says has not been provided for three seasons.
King said the league is broke after he spent $320,000 to keep the defunct Ottawa franchise afloat last season.
He says he borrowed funds from unnamed investors to pay the bonuses to the Bullfrogs and three other teams.
RHI founder Dennis Murphy has called for King’s resignation and supports Jeanie Buss, who ran the defunct Los Angeles Blades, to take over control of the league.
