Share

A group of Boyle Heights residents will hold a community food sale today to raise money for the burial of a man who died Monday after succumbing to injuries suffered in a brawl.

Salvador Mendoza, 25, suffered a severe neck injury when he and a friend got into a fight at a Monrovia liquor store Oct. 16, Monrovia police detectives said. He died Monday at Methodist Hospital in Arcadia.

Mendoza, who was living in Monrovia at the time of the fight, grew up in Boyle Heights.

“His family doesn’t have any kind of funds for a funeral,” said Erica Parra of IMPACTO, a community project organizing the sale. “We’re just trying to help out.”
