Nevada Las Vegas 96, Loyola Marymount 81--The Rebels took control almost from the start at Las Vegas, as Tyrone Nesby scored 25 points, and Kaspars Kambala had 20 points and 15 rebounds.

Ben Ammerman led the Lions with 17 points.

San Francisco 75, UC Irvine 59--The Anteaters, who won only one game last season, threw a scare into the Dons in their opener at Irvine.

San Francisco, a favorite to win the West Coast Conference, trailed, 30-29, at halftime, but opened the second half with a 20-6 run. Irvine never got closer than eight the rest of the way.

Irvine finished with 27 turnovers and was outrebounded, 40-21. But Lamarr Parker scored 10 of his team-high 19 points in the first half to help the Anteaters rally from a 18-6 deficit.
