GIRLS’ TENNIS

Woodbridge is going for its fourth consecutive Southern Section tennis title, but today the Warriors will face a big obstacle in Palos Verdes Peninsula, the six-time defending Division I champions.

The Warriors, who won the Division III girls’ title last year and have won the last two Division I boys’ titles, but will be without Natalie Mitton, one of their best doubles players, who severely cut her hand while unloading a dishwasher.

Third-seeded Woodbridge was beaten by Peninsula, 10-8, this season. Today’s match will be played at 1:30 p.m. at Peninsula High. The other Division I semifinal features top-seeded Corona del Mar at fourth-seeded Newport Harbor.

In Division II, second-seeded Santa Barbara plays third-seeded Mater Dei at Costa Mesa Tennis Club at 2 p.m. and unseeded Beverly Hills travels to Dana Hills at 1:45 p.m. In Division III, unseeded Troy hosts top-seeded North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake (2 p.m.) and second-seeded Palm Desert plays at third-seeded Villa Park at 2 p.m. In Division V, second-seeded Laguna Beach travels to third-seeded Pasadena Poly (2 p.m.).
