Canyon Makes an Early Exit

It was good while it lasted for the Canyon High football team.

But it didn’t last very long in a 52-25 loss to top-seeded Peninsula in the first round of the Southern Section Division II playoffs Thursday night at West Torrance High.

Canyon (6-5) forced a fumble on Peninsula’s first possession and opened the scoring on an eight-yard pass from Luke Petticord to Drew Welch. But Peninsula (11-0) responded with 24 second-quarter points.

Canyon had four turnovers that led to 21 Panther points.

“We played them tough, but it was frustrating because we gave them the ball too many times,” Canyon Coach Larry Mohr said.
