Fountain Valley’s Wang Commits to UC Irvine

Grace Wang, a swimmer at Fountain Valley High, has signed a letter of intent to attend UC Irvine, Anteater swimming Coach Charlie Schober said Friday.

Wang is a two-time Sunset League champion in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle. She finished fourth in Southern Section Division I finals in the 50 free and 10th in the 100 free.

Jonni Seymour, a senior at Bakersfield Highland High, has signed a letter of intent to play women’s tennis at UC Irvine, school officials announced.

Seymour and Anteater freshman Darian Chappel are the top-ranked doubles team in California juniors. Seymour also is the eighth-ranked singles player.

Jeffrey Berokoff, a shooting guard at Sonora High, has signed to play basketball at San Diego State, his older brother, Mark, said.

Berokoff was a Times Orange County second-team selection as a sophomore and led the Raiders in assists last season.

El Toro infielder Clemente Bonilla will attend Southeast Missouri State, Charger Coach Tom McCaffrey said.

Bonilla, who plays shortstop and second base for El Toro, hit .459 last season with six home runs and 29 runs batted in. He was a first-team All-Sea View League selection the past two seasons and a Times all-county pick last year.

T.J. Williams, a guard on the Santa Margarita boys’ basketball team, has agreed to attend Cal Poly Pomona next fall, Coach Jerry DeBusk said.

Williams averaged 10 points and six assists for Santa Margarita en route to earning second team All-Sea View League honors.

Another Santa Margarita athlete, catcher Casey Grzecka, has signed to play baseball at Long Beach State.

Chapman football players Matt Hertzler, Jason Traut and Shane Orr earned West Region Academic All-America honors this week.

Hertzler, a senior, majors in exercise physiology and has a 3.80 grade-point average. He was a National Academic All-American first-team selection last season. Traut (3.58 GPA), a junior, and Orr (3.39 GPA), a sophomore, are both accounting majors.
