Santa Margarita Boys Run Past Woodbridge

Senior Brandon Von Guenthner finished first to lead the way to a 15-49 sweep by fourth-ranked Santa Margarita over Woodbridge in Sea View League boys’ cross-country Wednesday.

Von Guenthner easily outdistanced his teammates on the three-mile course at Santa Margarita, winning the race in 16 minutes 5 seconds, a minute ahead of Corey Collins, who took second for the Eagles in 17:04. Chris Caulfield finished third (17:09) for Santa Margarita (2-0), which is ranked seventh in Division II.

In Sea View League girls’ cross-country:

No. 6 Woodbridge 26, Santa Margarita 32--Mary Moore won the race for Woodbridge in 18:54 at Santa Margarita. Dani Rope finished second for Santa Margarita and teammate Lori Mann was third.

In Pacific Coast League boys’ cross-country:

Estancia 22, Laguna Hills 34--Alberto Munoz and Jose Orozco were first and second to help Estancia (1-1) to victory. Munoz finished in 16:02 and Orozco was 13 seconds behind him. Kevin Kelley of Laguna Hills (0-1) was third in 16:20 on the three-mile course at Laguna Hills High.

In the South Coast League:

Dana Hills 19, Trabuco Hills 42--Devin Lindahl of Dana Hills finished first in 15:53. Evan Geisert of Trabuco Hills was eight seconds behind Lindahl to take second in the league opener.

In South Coast League girls’ cross-country:

No. 5 Dana Hills 15, Trabuco Hills 43--Dana Hills (1-0) dominated, taking the top five places. Michelle Smith was first in 18:28, and Melissa Haddy second (18:32). Christa Fitzgerald finished third (18:37).

In Sea View League girls’ tennis:

No. 3 Woodbridge 11, No. 6 Newport Harbor 7--Susanna Lingman and Danielle Hustedt swept their opponents to help visiting Woodbridge (5-1, 1-0) in its league opener.

In nonleague girls’ tennis:

No. 4 Villa Park 10, Los Alamitos 8--Arpi Kojian lost only one game for Villa Park (5-1), sweeping, 6-0, 6-1, 6-0. Teammate Katey Becker also swept, 6-1, 6-3, 6-1. Los Alamitos is 2-4.

No. 8 Laguna Hills 18, Orange 0--Stephanie Hung, the Hawks’ No. 1 singles player, won, 6-4, 6-1, 6-0, as did the Hawks’ No. 1 doubles team of Megan Davies and Jaime Lautenschleger, 6-0, 6-1, 6-0. The Hawks improve to 8-1.

In nonleague girls’ volleyball:

No. 10 Capistrano Valley 3, Woodbridge 1--Capistrano Valley won, 13-15, 15-13, 15-9, 15-6. Rochelle Currier had 14 kills for the Cougars.

Rosary 3, Valencia 2--Alissa Sullivan had 17 kills and Monique Barnes had 14 to lead Rosary (3-2) in the 15-8, 11-15, 17-15, 4-15, 15-9 victory. Emily Mackprang had 33 assists for Rosary, ranked fifth in Division III-AA. Michelle LeBlanc had 15 kills for Valencia (3-2), ranked third in Division II-A.

In nonleague water polo:

Servite 18, Marina 15--Servite’s Michael Kim scored a game-high eight goals.
