Two Santa Paula teenagers were sent to the hospital Friday, one in serious condition, after the car they were riding in skidded out of control, struck a telephone pole and rolled over.

Jeffrey M. Delrio, 17, was listed in serious condition at Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura following the 12:50 p.m. crash, according to a nursing supervisor.

Delrio was driving west on Santa Paula Street at an unknown speed when he lost control of his 1965 Ford Mustang just east of Briggs Road and the car struck the wooden pole, said California Highway Patrol Officer Paul Thompson.

Delrio was ejected from the car while his passenger, Anthony Valenzuela, 18, remained in the car as it rolled over several times, Thompson said.

Neither was wearing a seat belt, the officer said.

Valenzuela, who was not injured, went to the hospital as a precautionary measure and left soon afterward, Thompson said.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, which damaged the car beyond repair, Thompson said.
